In recent months we have received many reports of dodgy tree removal contractors pressuring people into removing trees.
These contractors are claiming the trees are dangerous and misleading residents into believing that permits aren’t required. Dodgy tree loppers are often uninsured and their work practice is questionable. So, unsolicited offers of tree removal should be avoided.
A permit is always needed to remove canopy trees on private property – native and non-native. So please check with us before you chop the tree.

If you feel uncomfortable when someone door knocks and they are unable to produce a permit, avoid interaction and report the incident to:
- the local police, or
- the Australian Competition and Consumer Commision on 1300 795 995 or lodge your concern via SCAMwatch www.scamwatch.gov.au/report-a-scam.
